Carol Bell, Chairman
Carol Bell has over 35 years of experience in the energy industry having enjoyed a successful career as a Managing Director of Chase Manhattan Bank’s Global Oil & Gas Group, Head of European Equity Research at JP Morgan and several years as an equity research analyst in the oil and gas sector at Credit Suisse First Boston and UBS Phillips & Drew. Dr Bell began her career in corporate planning and business development at Charterhouse Petroleum plc and RTZ Oil and Gas. Carol Bell currently sits on the Boards at Ophir Energy plc, Petroleum Geo-Services ASA, Bonheur ASA and Tharisa plc. She is also a Non-Executive Director of the BlackRock Commodities Income Investment Trust plc and sits on the board of the Development Bank of Wales. Dr Bell holds an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Archaeology from University College London.
Tim Pearce, Managing Director
Tim Pearce, Managing Director of Chemostrat, has worked in the petroleum service sector for more than 20 years. Tim graduated from Liverpool University and subsequently gained his PhD from Kingston University. Tim’s doctoral research was a seminal work in the application of chemostratigraphy in the oil industry. Tim continues to publish his on-going research and present papers at scientific conferences in chemostratigraphic and provenance techniques and he is involved in global multi-client reports and regional studies from MENA, Europe, and Canada. Tim is responsible for corporate strategy and global business development.
On graduating from Wolverhampton University with a Maths degree in 1996 Vicki spent 7 years working for an Accountancy Practice where she gained her ACCA Accountancy qualification. Following this, a further 7 years was spent as Finance Manager for a large multinational electrical manufacturing company before moving to the Financial Services sector in 2010. Vicki joined Hafren as Head of Finance in 2013, becoming Finance Director in 2016.
Ken Ratcliffe is a founding director of Chemostrat along with Tim Pearce. He has worked in the oil industry for over 25 years after graduating from Imperial College and being awarded his doctorate from Aston University. Having successfully set up the Houston office and a Chemostrat presence in Australia as a focal point for Asia Pacific studies, Ken was appointed Global Sales Director. Following an internal restructuring, Ken was appointed CEO of the US Unconventional Division of Hafren Scientific in 2015. Ken maintains a very high research and technical profile in the industry through publications, conference presentations, and papers.
John Martin graduated from Aberdeen University in 1994 with a BSc honors degree and from Queen Mary College London in 1996 with an MSc degree. John oversees project work in Europe, including the rapidly developing shale resource plays. John was also instrumental in developing our in-house analytical capabilities and maintains an oversight role for XRF and ICP instruments at our analytical laboratory in Wales.

Manjit Jhooty, Non-Executive Director
Manjit has a built up a strong affinity with the primary healthcare sector over the years, helping the family business grow from four community pharmacy branches to a corporate business comprising 61 community pharmacy branches. The core community pharmacy employs more than 400 staff. While CEO of the community pharmacy group, Manjit was directly involved in relocating the business head office to new headquarters in the heart of Walsall’s town centre. Manjit sits on a number of other local boards and advisory committees such as local pharmacy committees. He is a member of the Independent Chemists Association and employment and training provider organisations including Steps to Work, Innovation Health and Wellbeing and Walsall Economic Board.
Ruth joined Chemostrat Ltd in 2001 and is now the Company Secretary for all the UK Companies. Ruth has 30 years financial experience working in both Industry and Accountancy practices.
